Year 9 WW1 Battlefields Trip to Belgium
The History Department organised a trip for our Year 9 students to visit the battlefields of Northern France and Belgium from Wednesday 3 July to Friday 5 July 2024. They visited the sites of some of the most important battles of World War One, such as Ypres and Beaumont Hamel, as well as the Tyne Cot Commonwealth Cemetery, Wellington Quarry, Langemark German Cemetery and attended the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate Memorial. The In Flanders Field Museum showed a unique perspective of the war and The Passchendaele Museum offered students the chance to enter the well-preserved trenches and underground bunkers.
Students had an opportunity to reflect and remember those who died during World War 1. Every student was given a namesake or similar to find at one of the sites visited and given a poppy tribute, from the British Legion, to lay at the site as a form of remembrance.
